The Scholarship Fund of Concord and Carlisle

What is the The Scholarship Fund?
The Scholarship Fund was established in 1966 by five Concord Carlisle Regional School Committee members. The Scholarship Fund is exempt from Federal income tax as an organization described in Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code. Since its inception, it has supported more than 1,200 students in higher education, many for four years, who have attended high school in Concord or reside in Concord or Carlisle.

Who are the Trustees?

What do they do?
The Trustees, all residents of Carlisle and Concord, serve without financial compensation. They raise funds, supervise all investments and expenditures, interview and select the students to receive scholarships each spring, and administer scholarships for several other local organizations. The Trustees also assist donors wishing to honor a special citizen, teacher, or loved one by establishing a named fund.

What is the Need?
92% of Concord Carlisle High School graduates go on to college or to business, technical or vocational schools. These students meet a portion of their financial need with institutional gifts, government loans, and entitlements. However, even after this support, our Fund applicants have an aggregate unmet need of over $1 million each year. The Scholarship Fund grants have met only about 11% of that unmet need. In order to fully support all qualified scholarship applicants, it would need a $20 million endowment.

What is the Goal?
Our goal is to significantly narrow the gap between students' costs and resources. The Trustees intend to substantially increase endowed funds to further our commitment of providing financial support to eligible students. Our success to date has allowed us to increase our annual scholarship awards from a total of $42,000 in 1996 to $165,200 in 2013.
