THE FREDDA KRAMER SAGE SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, Fredda Kramer Sage grew up in a warm and loving family as the oldest of three children. She was especially influenced by her mother, an elementary school teacher, whose example helped inspire Fredda’s own lifelong commitment to education and to young people.
In 1957, Fredda left Waterbury for Boston and, in 1961, graduated from Simmons College. She began her teaching career as a third-grade teacher in Quincy, Massachusetts, where she met and married the love of her life, Burt Sage. In 1968, Fredda and Burt moved to the beautiful town of Concord, Massachusetts, where they would build a life and raise their two sons.
Fredda took a leave from teaching to raise her children, returning to the workforce when her younger son entered fifth grade. She began tutoring three elementary students with hearing impairments at the Ripley School and followed them through middle school. In 1983, she joined them at Concord-Carlisle High School, where she was hired as a Special Education tutor.
Fredda absolutely loved her work at CCHS, her students, and her colleagues. She was an active and beloved member of the Special Education Department and served as chair of the department’s Social Committee. Although she officially retired in 2005, Fredda continued to substitute teach at CCHS until March 2020, when the school closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
After 55 happy years in Concord, Fredda moved to NewBridge on the Charles in 2023 following Burt’s death. Her wonderful experiences as an educator and the many joyful years her family spent in Concord inspired Fredda to give something back to the community that had given her and her family so much. Through this scholarship, Fredda hopes to help provide future students with opportunities to learn, grow, and pursue their own dreams.
